Top Bird Media Director, Catherine Whyte

I began working as a journalist in 1999 for an expat magazine in Japan called Kansai Time Out. The editor approached me and asked me if would be the Kyoto correspondent. Why not, I thought. I haven’t looked back.

Since then, I have worked for some wonderful publications on Japan including the award-winning Kyoto Journal and the Rough Guide to Japan.

Now, much of my time is spent managing the editorial department of Sheengate Publishing, a Surrey-based independent publisher. The company publishes four titles: The Richmond Magazine, The Kingston and Elmbridge Magazines, The Guildford Magazine and Surrey Downs Magazine, of which I am also the editor. The magazines have a total distribution of approximately 120,000 copies.

As well as chatting to the readers in my editor’s blog, I write the food and drink columns and the property pages. I also manage the interiors column. Very occasionally, I commission myself to write features. You can peruse a selection of my most recent work in the following pages.

I am always happy to consider commissions.
